JAKARTA, PGI.OR.ID-Rev. Mezisita Herlina (SE for KPG PGI), Rev. Johan Kristantara (SE for KKC PGI), Rev. Rosiana Purnomo (Head of Youth and Teenagers Bureau PGI), Mgr. Adrianus Sunarko, OFM (Secretary General of KWI), Fr. Nikasius Jatmiko (SE KWI), and Johanes laba (KWI Secretariat Staff), held a meeting to jointly formulate the theme of Christmas 2026, in the Ignatius room, 8th floor, office of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI), Jakarta, on Monday (28/9/2026).
As is known, the Indonesian Christian Church (PGI) and the Indonesian Christian Association (KWI) take turns formulating the Christmas theme and message. This year, it was the KWI's turn, and during the meeting, they prepared the theme and message for Christmas 2026.
"At a glance, we found the KWI's Christmas theme and message to be excellent and agreeable, as they relate to the current context and situation of our nation in Indonesia," said Rev. Mezisita at the start of the meeting.
Rev. Johan Kristantara echoed this sentiment. "All of PGI's concerns are contained in what KWI has prepared. If I may, we can also address the glaring injustices in this country, the increasingly polarized and co-opted digital space, so the issue of justice needs to be infused," he concluded.
On that occasion, Rev. Mezisita conveyed notes from the Indonesian Christian Church (MPH-PGI) that could be incorporated into the Christmas message, including issues of environmental damage, disasters, forest fires, ecological justice, the economic situation, and the nation's current predicament. "MPH-PGI also reminded us that amidst the economic downturn, it is necessary to celebrate Christmas simply and with a sense of solidarity. PGI itself remains focused on the six crises," she explained.
Bishop Adrianus Sunarko, OFM, expressed his gratitude for the input provided by the Indonesian Catholic Church (PGI). He stated that all input from the meeting will be discussed at the KWI annual session on November 4, 2026.
Regarding the 2026 Christmas theme, it is expected to be officially announced soon (around the second week of October) after being approved by the KWI leadership. (MS/BRNDS)
