WAMENA - The Jayawijaya Regency Government expressed its appreciation to the Jalan Suci Evangelical Church (GPI) for selecting Jayawijaya as the location for its 2026 Youth Camp in the Pyramid District, a historic landmark in the spread of the gospel in this region.
Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murib, SH, MH, stated that the Jayawijaya Regency government was very impressed and expressed their appreciation for choosing Jayawijaya, especially the Pyramid District, even though it is known that the Jalan Suci GPI is headquartered in Maybrat, South Sorong Regency.
"They came all the way from Maybrat to Pyramid in Jayawijaya Regency. This is actually a historic and beautiful place for us to enjoy, but because we're here, every event we want to go outside of Jayawijaya," he said.

The Regent also reiterated the extraordinary nature of the Jayawijaya region. The head of the 2026 Youth Camp group, and the secretary of the GPI Jalan Suci (Holy Crossing Group), who attended the event, acknowledged three things when asked why they chose Jayawijaya, which is generally more expensive than other areas in Papua.
"First, Jayawijaya is the New Zealand of Papua. Second, God's creation is so beautiful when we first set foot in Wamena. The children of Maybrat are grateful to God for creating such a beautiful place," explained Regent Murib.
Third, the Jayawijaya Regent continued, the Pyramid is a historic site of evangelism, where missionaries often attended schools and, using the local language, spread the gospel to all corners of the Papuan Highlands, which is why they came.
"This is their reason for making the Pyramid District of Jayawijaya Regency the venue for the 2026 GPI Jalan Suci Youth Camp. Therefore, as owners of the country, we should respect the nature that God created to be continuously maintained so that it can continue to be enjoyed," explained Atenius Murib.

The former commander of the 1702/Jayawijaya Military District (Dandim 1702/Jayawijaya) encouraged all parties to hold major events without leaving Jayawijaya. They could still do so in this region, as the historic sites are not limited to Pyramid, but also in Wolo District, Hitigima, and even Bokondini, Tolikara Regency.
"In the future, if there are professionals who want to retreat, I will also invite them. If not at Pyramid, there's also Bokondini, a beautiful place. If there's a meeting, perhaps we can go there together to enjoy the natural beauty God has given us," he concluded. (Denny/Martina)
